DoverPhila Marks 27th Year of Giving Back to Its Members

2021 was another significant year for DoverPhila Federal Credit Union, and because of great financial results, the credit union could give back $1.5 million to its members through a year-end bonus-dividend, low-cost auto loans, certificates of deposits (CDs) with higher interest rates, and a vast array of other financial products and services.

This marks the 27th year in a row; a unique feat to DoverPhila because it is a community-focused, not-for-profit financial institution controlled by its members.

Community Investment

DoverPhila Federal Credit Union continued to establish and strengthen relationships within Tuscarawas County through several sponsorships and donations that totaled over $80,000. Some of these investments included United Way of Tuscarawas County, Rainbow Connection, East Central Ohio ESC’s Family Reading Festival, the local Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive, Twin City Food Pantry, Tuscarawas Clinic for the Working Uninsured, Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio, Kent State University Tuscarawas, Tuscarawas County Humane Society, Tuscarawas County Senior Center, Tuscarawas County Community Hospice, Ohio Outdoor Historical Drama, Tuscarawas County Philharmonic, area youth athletic associations, and many more.

Share-A-Christmas
With the generosity of staff and the hard work of DPFCU’s New Philadelphia office, the credit union gave over $2,400 worth of gifts to 245 area youth this holiday season for Share-A-Christmas.

United Way of Tuscarawas County
Pledge-Card Campaign
DoverPhila continued its annual pledge-card campaign. With pledges from staff and credit union members, a donation of over $22,000 went to United Way of Tuscarawas County to help the many health and human service agencies that partner with United Way.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program
DPFCU continued its partnership with United Way of Tuscarawas County to provide a drop-off location for United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The program offers free income-tax support to individuals who earn less than $60,000 per year, or joint filers who earn less than $90,000 per year.

Financial Literacy Programming
Financial Literacy Grant
This was the second year that DoverPhila was the recipient of a financial literacy grant through the Ohio Department of Commerce. Allotted funds were used to continue the growth of the credit union’s current online financial literacy program, Banzai. The funds also provided free professional development opportunities to local educators through a partnership with East Central Ohio Educational Service Center and financial literacy resources to over 30 schools in Tuscarawas and surrounding areas. The award-winning online program can help optimize financial wellness and is accessible via desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and other smart devices. It is also available for free in the Tuscarawas County community.

Community Financial Wellness Program
DoverPhila offered a five-week financial wellness program at Buckeye Career Center that focused on goal-setting and saving, building a budget, dealing with debt, understanding credit, credit reports, and credit scores, and protecting finances. The program was free for members and non-members.

Product Enhancements
There were some notable product enhancements, such as its mobile banking app and website.

Updated Mobile Banking App
The credit union released an updated mobile banking app. The improved layout mimics DPFCU’s home banking platform and provides an upgrade of sign-in features, such as fingerprint, facial recognition (for iPhone), and quick pin. It also features e-signature for members to sign eDocuments from the convenience of their phones.

New Website
A newly designed website launched in October. The strategically crafted layout provides a unique online experience for members and showcases the credit union’s vast array of financial wellness products and services.
