What to Buy and What to Skip in December

Whether you’re finishing up your holiday shopping or looking for year-end bargains in any category this month, here’s what to buy and what to skip in December.

Buy: Electronics
Lots of retailers keep the leftovers from November’s sales marked down through December. Look for discounted electronics at big box stores, online retailers, and directly from manufacturers.

Skip: Winter Clothing
It’s still too early to score any real discounts on clothing. Save big on winter wardrobe essentials by waiting until retailers slash prices after the holidays.

Buy: Toys
As the year draws to a close, you’ll see steep discounts on toys and games from retailers that are looking to clear the season’s inventory before the holidays. This can be the perfect time to pick up some budget-friendly stocking stuffers for the special little someones in your life.

Skip: Fitness Equipment
Trying to slim down before the holidays? Hold off on purchasing exercise equipment to save big bucks. Fitness gear and clothing, as well as gym memberships, will soon get price drops as consumers join the annual New Year’s Resolution fitness craze.

Buy: Champagne
Welcome the new year with the pop of your favorite champagne, all at a price that doesn’t break the budget. Liquor sellers are competing for your business right now, so prices on the celebratory beverage plunge as New Year’s approaches.

Skip: Furniture and Bedding
Furniture and bedding sell for full-price at most retailers this month. Wait for the January white sales to purchase the same items at discounted prices, or for Presidents’ Day sale events in February for even bigger savings.

Buy: Christmas Decorations
Retailers slash holiday decor, wrapping paper, tree ornaments, and more up to 50% the day after Christmas. With prices like these, it’s not too early to think about next year’s holiday season!

Buy: Gift Cards
Gift cards are a perfect antidote to out-of-control inflation. You can find discounted gift cards throughout December, on sites like GiftCardGranny, CardCash, and through private sellers on sites like Craigslist.

All locations will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and will close at 2:00pm on Friday, November 29. Our North Dover, New Phila, and Newcomerstown branches are drive-thru only on this day. Normal business hours will resume on Saturday, November 30.
